This island hosts a variety of award winning restaurants especially on the famous Saint Lawrence Gap strip, this is where you will find pubs, karaoke bars and holiday accommodation.. This is where you want to be when visiting Barbados, at least if you want to be in the hustle and bustle side of the island.
Barbados is the most eastern Caribbean island and is less that one million years old.  It was created by the collision of the Atlantic crustal and Caribbean plates, along with a volcanic eruption.

Home to about 285 000 people (and where Tiger Woods got married), Barbados depends largely on tourism. This pear shaped island is a mere 34km long and 23 wide. Temperatures range from 21 to 30 degrees Celsius with your wet season from June to December, but rain falls periodically throughout the year. Mix in some humid weather and high temperatures and you have a great recipe for tropical plantations and palm trees disappearing into the clouds..

Animal Flower Cave

Probably the most photographed cave picture in Barbados you will find at the Animal flower cave. The name comes from the sea anemones, also known as animal flowers, that live in the cave.
It was a bit disappointing for me when our “not so professional” tour guide took a stick and encouraged us to poke the sea anemones. I immediately declined and  expressed my concern for the survival of these beautiful creatures if every tourist had to poke them!
Most of them have sadly died already and I could only count about 3 that was left
A stairway through a blow-hole in the bedrock provides safe access to the cave where you will discover the scenic cave openings to the Atlantic ocean. The cave has a few pools and guests are welcome to take a dip or indulge in some cliff jumping.
This is where Billy Ocean filmed his music videos as well as Rihanna and a few scene from Bold and the Beautiful!
The Animal cave marks the place where the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Seas meet.  Just above the cliffs is a restaurant with a scenic view, a kiddies play park and souvenir shops.
Sunday from 9am – 4:30pm

Cost/Price: US $10.00 (Adults) / $5.00 (Kids 5 – 12 years) / (Children under 5 years are Free)

Duration: 20 minutes
Guided tours of the cave are available and are not at set times, so just come along and enjoy the experience.

Other than the above mentioned there is a beautiful golf course situated at Sandy Lane, if you are lucky you might see Simon Cowell or Rihanna enjoying a drink on their villa’s balcony situated on the golf course..
Visit the botanical gardens & Oistins fishing village (on a Friday night!) take a hike through the lush tropical hills, enjoy some water sports, scuba diving, cliff jumping & whale watching, go for cooking classes, watch the sea turtles nest, enjoy some shopping and indulge in some local Barbadian cuisine..
If you are looking for something more adventurous take a boat ride around the island to get a better view of what this island has to offer.. But be warned! The water gets very choppy on the north and east coast!
If you are planning to visit Barbados be sure to stay preferably on the South coast, this is the only coastline in Barbados with calm waters making it ideal for swimming.. Most restaurants and souvenir shopping will also be on this side of the island..
As with any country Barbados does have some degree of crime, make sure not to visit isolated beaches on your own and make sure you walk in groups when visiting quieter areas..
Barbados is indeed paradise boasting with award winning beaches and restaurants.  This island is well worth a visit!
Till next time!
Regards from a hot and humid Barbados xoxo
