We love the new Mermaid Craze currently trending in the world. From Flower Crowns to Seashell Crowns this trend is giving the inner sea goddess in you a chance to shine and we are inspired!
Chelsea Shiels, a 27-year-old florist from Melbourne, Australia, had been making and selling flower crowns when she tried making a crown using seashells.”I’ve always wanted to be Ariel, under the sea,” Shiels told Cosmopolitan.com. “I’m a real beach bum. That was where my obsession with the sea and shells came from.”
For a couple of years, Shiels kept the seashell creations a private hobby. “I was scared of people’s opinions,” she said. “I thought people would think it was dumb to put shells on your head.” Eventually, with the mermaid trend gaining steam, her confidence grew, and last year, Shiels felt ready to put her mermaid crowns out into the world.
To make her mermaid crowns, Shiels uses seashells that she sources from places that have an excess of shells on beaches; she works with suppliers in Australia, India, and Hawaii. For her smaller crowns, she typically uses around 20 shells, and for larger crowns, she can use up to 50 shells.
