Journey to Lamayuru Monastery – Leh | India

We took a day trip to reach our end destination for the day – the Lamayuru Monastery in Leh.

This was a point of interest not only because it is the oldest monastery in India, but also because the journey to reach the monastery will pass amazing landscapes and amazing sights.

So after breakfast we started our journey which led us on small winding roads through the mountains, hilltops and valleys. We stopped at every sight that was just too spectacular to not capture and ended the day at the Lamayuru Monastry.

The Lamayuru monastry is situated at an altitude of 11 520ft and it dates back to the early 10th century! {India really has a very rich history & culture}

There used to live around 400 monks at this monastery, but through the years the numbers have declined to about 150 monks. We had an encounter with a “boy monk” that could not have been older than 10 years. it really is facinating to learn more about the cultures, the way the locals do things as well as some incredible reasons as to “why” they do things a certain way.

We walked around the monastery and enjoyed the views from the top, overlooking an incredible valley and a piece of landscape called “Moonlanding”

Leh has turned out to be an amazing and the landscapes are absolutely breathtaking!
