Whenever your hear of a new restaurant opening I am personally always intrigued to find out if the hype and the reality of your experience are on the same level. So with that in mind, I am very happy to write the following review:
When looking for a fine dining experience, look no further than the new edition in the Kove family – BLANKO Restaurant at the Alphen Hotel in Constantia.
Not only does the ambience of the restaurant sets the mood for a beautiful setting for lunch or dinner but the friendly staff and hospitality makes you feel right at home.
Lets start by saying that we love fine dining, nothing sets the tone better for a great evening when being served top notch food with great South African and International Wine Selections to complement any dish on the menu.
Add the beautiful setting of the Alphen Hotel to the mix and you are well on your way to have a great experience at Blanko.
Don’t get me wrong I have eaten at many beautiful locations but then there is always something that ruins the experience, either the food or service leaves you wanting more, while everything at Blanko was definitely on point.
For starters our waiter was incredible and really made our experience very enjoyable, while the manager was an absolute delight to chat to.
I really wanted to experience the Gnocchi on the starter selection, as I am somewhat of a Gnocchi snob, and guess what…I was not disappointed. It was fresh, perfectly seasoned & it complimented our Durbanville Hills Sauvignon Blanc perfectly.
Fast Forward to the main course and boy oh boy TRY THE LAMB SHANK – Don’t even think about it! Just order it! What an absolute treat to have the meat falling of the bone tender and very flavoursome.
When it comes to choosing your main meal, there really is quite a selection to choose from and I am sure you can not go wrong with any one of them.
The highlight of the night for me was the dessert! I am a HUGE…and I mean HUGE fan of meringues in any shape or form – so imagine my absolute joy when I could order just that…Meringues with ice cream, chocolate and whipped cream! – For a moment all your problems disappear when you take a bite…it was THAT good I promise you!
I love the interior of Blanko and I know it can be very cosy on a cold winter’s night, however I love the outside terrace part of the restaurant.
With beautiful greenery and enough heaters to keep you warm on a chilly night, it surely is for me the best spot to be!
So in my opinion this would be the perfect spot to try your hands on some fine dining and 5 star service for a lunch with the girls or a date night dinner with your favourite person.
